When my husband and I found out I was pregnant with a June due date, our baby quickly earned the nickname “June bug”. When it was time to plan her first birthday, a bug themed birthday party seemed perfect. Real june bugs definitely aren’t so cute, however, so I came up with an imaginary bug for her invitation design (we’ll be sharing a free printable version later today!). I am smitten with all things ombre, so I gave the little creature some fun ombre stripes, too.
As it was a small gathering, I had a vision of one long table where everyone could sit together for an outdoor lunch. The amazing duo of Euri and Kendra of Fleuretica took this idea and brought it to life with a whimsical tablescape. They created an ombre effect of flowers along a moss tablerunner adorned with little mushrooms and bug creatures. They hung fluffy white clouds above the table along with glass orbs filled with moss, birds, and more little bugs. It was so absolutely darling, and Gracie loved it, too!
For the rest of the decor, I created oversized bugs (a DIY is coming later this week) and giant tissue paper flowers using this tutorial from Design*Sponge. The yummy treats were made by Sweet and Saucy Shop, which I displayed on an acrylic stand. I transformed the supporting columns into flowers with tissue paper stems, leaves, and blooms. The highlight of the party for me was seeing Gracie oh-so-delicately examine the mini cake, complete with her serious eyebrows! To see more from the party, stop by the full gallery, and check in later in the week for some fun and easy DIY projects for your own bug-themed party. Thanks for letting me to get a little personal this week and introduce you to my little one!
