This baby shower is so light, happy, and altogether darling! Mama Elissa Pyon became inspired to have a gender reveal for her baby shower after the sweetest gender surprise for her husband at the airport, who was returning home after being deployed in the Navy. Elissa shared more about this wonderful moment:
“When he was able to return home over the holidays, I surprised him at the airport with blue balloons, revealing that we were having a little boy. I loved seeing the look on his face as he came down the escalator. I kept the balloons in a bag until the very last possible second, so that he was the very first person to know that we were having a boy. My friend Chrissie was there to take pictures and even she didn’t know! Inspired by this moment, my baby shower began to take shape.”
From there, the shower started to take on a bears and balloons theme after Elissa found a cute silhouette featuring both by June at Noon. She used it as a rough template to create wallpaper covered cardboard silhouettes that were then hung on the dining room walls. Elissa carried those design elements throughout the rest of the decor. “From the beginning, I knew that I wanted the shower to take place at my home in Raleigh. I love any reason to utilize my dining room and it is so much easier to figure out logistics when you know a space inside and out. My shower was at the end of January, so a garden party was out of the question…yet I wanted everything to feel like Spring, because Henry’s due date was in March. I ended up bringing the garden party indoors with lots of spring blooms, including daffodils which have been my favorite since childhood. It was also fun to use a lot of white & pastels knowing that I was having a boy! I thought it might trick guests and I also knew it might be my last chance to have such a girlish party!”
“I am a big fan of the bubbly and even though I was pregnant, I wanted my friends and family to enjoy themselves, especially those ladies without children!”
“Two of my best friends Chrissie and Nancy helped host the shower and they also made a lot of the delicious and beautiful food. Nancy’s cheddar biscuits from the Junior League of Raleigh cookbook are my favorite! I begged her to make them as always!”
“I created a photo booth wear guests could don bear ears with blue or pink bows (representing their guess of boy or girl).”
“When guests called to RSVP for the shower they were asked if they thought baby Pyon was a boy or girl. I then displayed their guesses on kraft paper cards stamped with pink and blue hearts at the shower. When it was time for the big reveal, I surprised guests by tearing the wallpaper off the photo booth. Underneath was a photo of my original gender reveal to Peter at the airport.
“The best part of my shower was working together with my family and friends to make it all happen. My mom and her best friend Audrey helped me clean and set up the house the night before. We stayed up late into the evening laughing, blowing up balloons & cutting flowers. I have the best memories of this beautiful day, and it was the perfect way to celebrate with the people I love the most before Henry’s birth.”
